*Confessions of a Conservative Social Worker
*Revelations of a Jewish Republican
*Exposé of a non-Liberal Entertainer
How paradoxical that everyone can relate to not matching the stereotype, not living up to others' expectations, or just plain not fitting in.
Take a hilarious look at what happens when reality meets "group-think," Karen's adventures with "conservaphobic" liberals, and why limited government principles are really the ones that protect "the little guy."
"HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU BECOME A
JEWISH REPUBLICAN?"
I am asked this question often.
The Jewish part was just a lucky break I guess, but what about those other "categories?" Female, Actress, and Social Worker? "Isn't that an oxymoron?" people constantly ask, only half-kidding. What they really want to know is how I could have gone so far astray. Here's the answer:
The fact is, I never did fit in--not even when it was trendy to be rebellious. When everyone else was listening to the Beatles, I was usually listening to Beethoven. When baby boomers revolted against conformity by dressing exactly alike, I wore the same navy blue, A-line dress and wondered why they didn't see the irony of it all.
Even my allergies were a sign of things to come. Along with dust, pollen and animal dander (my dog laughs at the power he has over me) I’m allergic to big government, platitudinous political promises and mindless hero worship. I don't even need a religious excuse to be allergic to pork!
The fact is, you don't have to elevate "diversity" to a movement. You only have to appreciate America for the hard-won principles of individual freedom and personal responsibility on which it was founded. For one as out of step as me, there could be no greater gift.
Iconoclasts of the world, unite! Now THAT'S an oxymoron!
